What Will You Choose?
You have been shown a road. No one can walk it for you — and no one is allowed to force you onto it.
Questions5 min
You have followed the questions this far. That alone puts you in a small minority; most people never look. What remains is not another argument. It is a decision, and it is yours.
The Qur'an is unusually explicit that this is how it must be.
- Qur'anQur'an 18:29
- Qur'anQur'an 76:3
And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve."…
- Qur'anQur'an 18:29
Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.
- Qur'anQur'an 76:3
What a yes would actually involve
Less than you may fear. There is no ceremony, no clergy, no fee. A person becomes Muslim by sincerely saying — and meaning — that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger. Everything else is learned afterwards, at a human pace.
And the past is not carried in. The Prophet ﷺ told a man who worried about his earlier life that Islam wipes away what came before it.
- SunnahSahih Muslim 121
- Qur'anQur'an 39:53
“Do you not know that Islam wipes out all that came before it…?”
What a 'not yet' would involve
Also less than you may fear — for now. Islam does not ask you to pretend a conviction you do not have. Keep reading. Keep asking. Read the Qur'an itself rather than what people say about it. Speak to Muslims who know their religion.
But be honest with yourself about one thing. 'Not yet' assumes a later. The Qur'an gently insists that this assumption is the one thing none of us can guarantee.
- Qur'anQur'an 63:10-11
- SunnahJami' at-Tirmidhi 3537 (hasan)
“Allah accepts the repentance of His servant so long as the death rattle has not yet reached him.”
The claim, in one breath
There is one Creator. You belong to Him. He did not create you without purpose. He has sent guidance. This life will end. You will return to Him. And how you respond matters.
That is the whole of it. Everything else on this site is detail.
- Qur'anQur'an 23:115
- Qur'anQur'an 51:56
- Qur'anQur'an 2:38
- Qur'anQur'an 62:8
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
- Qur'anQur'an 2:186
